Dr. Martens and Junya Watanabe unveil their latest collaboration—a bold fusion of British footwear heritage and Japanese avant-garde tailoring. Part of Watanabe’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection, the partnership reimagines the iconic Dr. Martens 1490 boot through a cubist perspective, resulting in three distinct pieces: two geometric leather rider’s jackets and a pair of stud-covered boots.
The standout jackets—titled JUNYA WATANABE RIDER’S JACKET CUSTOM W/1490 I and II—take cues from the 10-eye 1490 silhouette. Each design fuses the boot’s structure into the sleeves, contrasting the sculptural arms with classic leather torsos for a striking visual impact. Prices are set at ¥352,000 (tax included) for the first version and ¥308,000 (tax included) for the second. Both come in sizes XS to L, though SHOWROOM TYO will carry only size M.
Also featured is the 1490 JUNYA WATANABE STUDS CUSTOM boot, blanketed with two types of studs across the upper. Echoing both cubist abstraction and punk-era counterculture, this edition retains Dr. Martens’ signature yellow welt stitching and heel loop, with Watanabe’s name emblazoned on the tongue. Priced at ¥165,000 (tax included), the boot will be available in UK sizes 4 to 7, with SHOWROOM TYO offering UK6 and UK7 only.
The full lineup launches on Saturday, August 9, exclusively via the Dr. Martens Japan app (boots only), Dr. Martens SHOWROOM TYO (all three items), Comme des Garçons Aoyama, and select Junya Watanabe retailers. SHOWROOM TYO will also debut a custom window display celebrating the drop, inviting visitors to experience the collaboration’s sculptural flair firsthand.
