Nike partners with Japanese fashion designer Tomo Koizumi to unveil a striking interpretation of the Air Superfly, a sportswear silhouette reintroduced this spring, 25 years after its debut as a racing trainer. Known for his extravagant ruffles and bold use of color, Koizumi brings his signature aesthetic to a sneaker that merges the dynamism of sport with the artistry of couture.
The design takes inspiration from Japanese manga and elite women athletes, resulting in a silhouette that embodies both power and femininity. The upper and tongue feature a lenticular material that shifts color in changing light, while a multicolor outsole incorporates green dots reminiscent of early 2000s track spikes. Three interchangeable Swooshes — including two ruffled versions — along with multiple lace options allow wearers to personalize both volume and style. Koizumi’s logo is placed on the sock liner, cementing the collaboration as a continuation of his artistic vision.
Nike and Koizumi present the shoe through a campaign featuring three standout athletes: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the Jamaican sprinter with three Olympic gold medals and ten world titles; Masai Russell, the 2024 Olympic champion in the 100-meter hurdles; and Arie Aoki, an emerging Japanese sprinter. Each represents the fusion of strength, performance, and unapologetic style that Koizumi sought to express through the Air Superfly.
The Nike x Tomo Koizumi Air Superfly will be released on September 19 at Dover Street Market Ginza and select retailers in Japan, with a global release following on September 20 via SNKRS and select partners.
