Human Made and Tetsu Nishiyama to Launch New Streetwear Label Buffer

The creative partnership introduces a youth-centric brand focused on cultural heritage and accessibility, aiming to bridge generational gaps through the concept of buffer time.

Human Made has announced the launch of a new brand, Buffer, with Tetsu Nishiyama serving as creative director starting in April 2026. Derived from the concept of a buffer—representing both a connector between differing values and the necessary space to pause in a fast-paced society—the label draws from Tokyo’s youth culture spanning the 1980s to the early 2000s. The project aims to cultivate culture by providing a new perspective on time and historic contexts, encouraging younger generations to develop a discerning eye for lifestyle and creativity.

The product lineup will feature graphic designs by a diverse range of illustrators and artists. In a move to support younger generations, pricing is intentionally set to reflect 1980s and 90s standards, ensuring items remain accessible to high school students. The debut collection, consisting of graphic t-shirts and accessories, is scheduled for release in April 2026. Buffer also introduces a “pink rabbit” character as a guide to mentor youth, fostering a community-driven environment modeled after after-school interactions between seniors and juniors.
