Nanzuka has unveiled the official logo for the upcoming TV anime Ghost in the Shell, slated to air in 2026. The emblematic design was created by celebrated Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, known for his futuristic, hyperrealistic aesthetic. Speaking about the project, Sorayama remarked, “With the new Ghost in the Shell animation staying true to the original work, I designed the logo as a personal tribute to Masamune Shirow—filled with my respect and admiration. While staying true to the core concept, I also brought in my own aesthetic sense of style.”
Since Masamune Shirow’s original manga debuted in Young Magazine Kaizokuban (Kodansha) in 1989, Ghost in the Shell has become a cornerstone of cyberpunk culture. From Mamoru Oshii’s groundbreaking 1995 animated film to a range of TV series and a live-action Hollywood adaptation, the franchise continues to shape science fiction across mediums and generations.
The new series, titled The Ghost in the Shell, marks the directorial debut of Moko-chan, who previously served as assistant director on Dandadan and other titles at acclaimed studio Science Saru. The script and series composition are handled by award-winning sci-fi author Toh EnJoe (Self-Reference Engine, Godzilla Singular Point), while character design and chief animation direction come from Shuhei Handa, known for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and Spriggan. Animation is being produced by Science Saru, the studio behind Inu-Oh, The Colors Within, and Dandadan.
